Module 03 — Grow
Wealth
Money stress is the #1 source of tension. Here's a simple, India-specific system to build wealth — no jargon, no complexity, no excuses.
The wealth mindset shift
Most people think of investing as something they'll do when they have “enough.” That day never comes. The system below isn't about getting rich — it's about removing money from the list of things that stress you out. That's the goal: financial peace, not financial perfection.

The wealth-building sequence
- 01
Step 0: Emergency fund first
Before anything — build 6 months of expenses in a liquid account (sweep FD or liquid mutual fund). Financial stress comes from one bad month wiping you out. This stops that.
- 02
Step 1: Get term insurance
If anyone depends on your income, buy a term plan: 10–15x your annual income, 30-year term, premium ₹8,000–20,000/year. No term plan = financial anxiety for your family if something happens.
- 03
Step 2: Get health insurance
Employer cover isn't enough. Get a separate ₹10–20 lakh family floater. A hospital bill without insurance can wipe out years of savings in one go. This is non-negotiable.
- 04
Step 3: Start a SIP
Start a monthly SIP into an index fund — Nifty 50 or Nifty Total Market. Even ₹1,000/month. The habit matters more than the amount. Use Groww, Kuvera, or Zerodha Coin.
- 05
Step 4: The 50-30-20 rule
50% needs (rent, food, EMIs), 30% wants (eating out, travel, fun), 20% invest/save. If you can't do 20%, start with 10%. Automate it — transfer on salary day, before you can spend it.
- 06
Step 5: Avoid lifestyle inflation
When salary increases, increase SIP — not expenses. The trap is this: you earn more, spend more, stress the same. Break the cycle by keeping lifestyle the same for 6 months after every raise.

Where to invest (Indian platforms)
Groww
Best UI, great for beginners, direct plans only
Kuvera
Feature-rich, goal-based investing, direct plans
Zerodha Coin
Demat-based MF investing, good if you already use Zerodha
Always choose direct plans (not regular) — you save 0.5–1% in annual fees, which compounds to lakhs over 20 years.
Common mistakes to avoid
- ✕Timing the market — nobody can. SIP ignores timing.
- ✕Investing in regular plans (with distributor commission) instead of direct plans
- ✕Buying LIC endowment or ULIP policies as 'investment' — these are terrible returns
- ✕Taking loans for depreciating assets (phones, cars) on EMI
- ✕Not having a will or nominee set up on your accounts
- ✕Panic-selling during market crashes — that's when SIPs do their best work
